Nissan New Zealand has provided the Christchurch Civil Defence with the use of a fleet of Nissan Navara 4 wheel drive to assist with disaster recovery in the city.
The picture below shows Mayor Bob Parker taking delivery of the first unit with a further 14 units scheduled for delivery by the end of this week.
Additional vehicles will be delivered early in April.
The Navara have been provide to support 'Project Suburb' in a Christchurch City Council Civil Defence initiative in which teams of four, consisting of building officials, engineers and welfare officers visit all homes in affected suburbs.
The teams will conduct Level1 assessments of residents' properties. If real structural damage is suspected then an engineer will conduct a more in-depth Level 2 assessment.
Welfare officers will asses whether residents also require emotional or psychological assistance or housing or financial services.
Nissan New Zealand Managing Director John Manley says all New Zealanders ate deeply shocked by the level of destruction in Christchurch and the hardship inflicted on so many of the city's citizens. Nissan New Zealand wished to make a positive contribution that would directly assist those working in restoring services to those most in need within the community.
